Tuesday, 29 March 2022. Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma
5, versioned 5.24.4.
Plasma 5.24 was released in February 2022 with many feature refinements
and new modules to complete the desktop experience.
This release adds three weeks' worth of new translations and fixes from
KDE's contributors. The bugfixes are typically small but important and
include:
* Sddm/lockscreen: Fix weird behaviour.
* Plymouth KControl: Substantially bump the helper timeout.
* Systemsettings runner: Ensure that we match keywords case
insensitively.

Release 5.4.X branch has reached EOL. See:
https://docu.ilias.de/goto.php?target=wiki_1357_Release_5.4
Although 7.7 is a recent release yet it does not support php80 but as
mentioned here:
https://docu.ilias.de/goto.php?target=wiki_1357_Required_and_Supported_Software_ILIAS_7
The Technical Board intends to re-evaluate the max. supported PHP
version in ~August/September in regards to PHP 8. We'd predict a
positive impact on the code quality, if ILIAS developers could rely on
PHP >= 7.3 features.
Either way ilias 8 is supposed to be released with php 8 support
sometimes in August/September before the support for php 7.4 ends.

- Update Stellarium to the latest version 0.22.0
- Introduce WEBENGINE option: it helps to query various websites such
as Wikipedia, VSX AAVSO, GCVS SAI, etc. for extra information about
selected object and display it in the plugin's window
- Because of the above, reword MORE_STARS option description to avoid
using the word `extra' twice in the option selection dialog

Describe user impact as a result of sysutils/screen-4.9.0_3 which removes
setuid root by default, disabling multiuser feature. The option is
appropriately called MULTUSER. Users may enable the multiuser feature
in three ways, as discsussed by the update to UPDATING.

Multiuser mode is a handy way to share a screen among people who do
not reside in the same location. Unforutnately it requires that screen
be setuid root. GNU screen has had a number of CVEs over the years.
See https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-72/\
product_id-1860/GNU-Screen.html. Removing the setuid bit mitigates this
at the expense of breaking the multuser feature.
Red Hat removed GNU screen's setuid bit over a dozen years ago. Their
rationale is documented in their bugzilla bug 580339, where they stated
that most users don't use the multiuser feature. (Personally, I'm the only
person I know of who uses that feature.)
Users who use the multuser feature should enable the MUILTUSER option
prior to building screen or using poudriere-options. Alternatively, users
can chmod the setuid bit on when needed.

The port installs some ".sample" configuration files into etc. Let's use
the @sample keyword to manage them correctly during upgrades and
deinstallations.

This release *requires* consumers to use C++17, which makes it one
of the more intrusive poppler releases in recent memory. Consumers
have already been bumped or marked BROKEN if they now require some
impossible combination of libraries.

|

This is a fix-it-before-it-breaks for a poppler update that requires
consumers (like gdal) to compile in C++17 mode.

Many ports use xsltproc as a BUILD_DEPENDS. CMake itself unconditionally
depends on ftp/curl, for which certain options can pull in dependencies
using xsltproc to build.
While here:
- DIST_SUBDIR to gnome
- add devel/icu LIB_DEPENDS
